For different price ranges I would also recommend looking north of Newport (Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Bristol) or west of Newport (Jamestown, Narragansett, Wickford) may be cheaper!

If choosing to stay at Hammets Hotel in your search keep in mind they are primary host for Newport Boat Show and have advised me:
On-site parking will not be available.
Normal water views will be obstructed by large vendor tents.
There will be no on-site pick-up location for transportation.
